Fearing societal judgment and ridicule from her orthodox family, Sanya hides the nature of her job, claiming she works at an —hence the title Chhatriwali (Woman with Umbrella). However, after witnessing the health issues faced by local women due to a lack of safe sex practices and the refusal of their husbands to use contraceptives, Sanya transforms her job into a mission. She begins a crusade to educate the community and normalize conversations around safe sex.
