If you’ve purchased a regional version of Medieval II: Total War or its expansion, Kingdoms , you might find yourself stuck with text and audio in a language you don’t understand. This guide covers how to switch your game to English using official and community-driven methods. Method 1: Steam Version (The Easiest Way)
The English language data is stored in the data and packs folders. You are looking for: en_localized.pack
Sometimes after installing a pack, you might see "Unlocalized Text" or blank buttons. This happens because the game’s string files haven't refreshed. Go to your Medieval II Total War/data/text folder. Delete all files ending in . Do not delete the .txt files.
To convert a non-English version to English, you typically need to download an "English Language Pack" (often shared on community sites like or ModDB ).
If you own the game on Steam, you don’t need to download external files. Steam provides the language packs automatically. and go to your Library . Right-click on Medieval II: Total War . Select Properties . Navigate to the Language tab. Select English from the dropdown menu.
