The story begins in 2007 at the Saarne Institute in Estonia, where Leena Klammer (Isabelle Fuhrman), a 31-year-old woman with a rare hormonal disorder that makes her look like a child, is being held. After orchestrating a violent escape, she finds the profile of a missing American girl named Esther Albright and assumes her identity.
