: In the Upside Down, Joyce and Hopper find a "nest" in the library. They find Will unconscious with a fleshy tendril down his throat; Hopper performs CPR—flashing back to his daughter Sara's death—and successfully revives him.

: Chief Hopper and Joyce Byers are captured at Hawkins National Laboratory. To save Will, Hopper makes a deal with Dr. Brenner: he reveals Eleven's location (the middle school) in exchange for safe passage into the Upside Down and the lab's silence regarding their past activities.
