Picking up shortly after the events of Season 1, the episode finds the "Boys"—Hughie, Mother's Milk, Frenchie, and Kimiko—living as wanted fugitives in a basement hideout while their leader, Billy Butcher, is missing and framed for the murder of Madelyn Stillwell.

: The team meets with CIA Deputy Director Susan Raynor. Just as she realizes there is a coup occurring within Vought International, her head mysteriously explodes, forcing the Boys to flee.
