Critics and audiences generally viewed the sequel as a "carbon copy" that lacked the artistry and psychological depth of the Barbet Schroeder-directed original. While some reviewers found it to be an acceptable direct-to-DVD thriller, many others criticized the "lame acting" and "weak direction," noting it felt more like a low-budget imitation than a true continuation.
