The story of begins in the town of Bhawanigarh, Rajasthan, where the wealthy Thakur family lives in fear of an ancient curse. After missing a bus that subsequently crashes with no survivors, Reet is presumed dead. To avoid causing her family more grief, she decides to hide out in the abandoned, "haunted" haveli, with Ruhaan reluctantly helping her. However, their presence awakens the dormant spirit of Manjulika. Ruhaan, forced to pretend he can speak to ghosts to explain his presence, becomes known as "Rooh Baba," a fake exorcist.
